It’s a gasket made out of membrane because some of the concrete drains don’t have membranes. On a new build you probably won’t need the slurry, but on a rebuild, you probably will fill in any missing floor voids.

AquaeGuard is a sheet membrane set into the tile adhesive and AquaeSeal is a semi-solid and ready to use tanking membrane, which is painted on by brush. AquaeSeal is easier than AquaeGuard to install, but it is more time consuming and slightly less reliable.
